My Trip to the ABC Kids Expo #ABCKids11

As some of you may know, I ventured down to Louisville, Kentucky this past weekend for the ABC Kids Expo.  Here’s a bit of information about it:

The ABC Kids Expo is the premier juvenile products specialty show in the nation. With more than 900 exhibitors in over one million square feet of exhibit space, it is currently the fastest growing trade show in the nation and ranks 54 out of the 100 largest trade shows in North America. (Trade Show Executive 2009)

I was so excited to be able to attend as a member of the media since it’s not open to the general public.  Unfortunately, I only knew a couple other people going so I was super nervous to pretty much be on my own in a place I’d never been and an environment I’d never been.  Eek!

Saturday morning the drive began at 5:30 am.  I woke Carter up around 5:15 in hopes that I could just move him out to the car and he’d go back to sleep.  After all, that is the earliest I think he’s ever gotten up since he was a little baby and not sleeping through the night.  Unfortunately, things didn’t quite go that smoothly.  He was fine in the car but only slept for about 20 minutes.

When we arrived one of the first things I did was take Carter into a restroom to change his diaper.  During the process, two ladies walked up to me and I was in shock!  I looked up and it was Jenn Labit, the creator of BumGenius and Cotton Babies!  She had recognized Carter’s diaper so she came over to say hello :)  After that, I knew it was going to be a great day!

Just walking in to this place was overwhelming but oh so wonderful!  This is just ONE picture, and look at how many awesome brands you can see!

I had a few appointments scheduled (I’ll tell you more about some of those very soon) and by the end of them Carter was getting pretty fussy.  At one point I sat down near a wall and created a border for him with the stroller and my leg so he could at least stand and walk for a bit.  It was near a door where food service workers were going in and out.  A lady came out pushing a large cart and propped the door open.  Just a few minutes later a man came out and said “Maam, you can’t prop the door open.”  I said, “I did not do it, sir!”  Geesh, I felt like I was getting in trouble!

I left several hours earlier than I had planned to on Saturday because Carter was grumpy and I don’t blame him.  I went back on Sunday by myself so I knew I’d be able to see and do a lot more that day.  I had a few more appointments on Sunday and made sure to stop by the BumGenius booth to take a look at their new Flip Trainers!

At least I can look forward to potty training for this reason!  These trainers are beautiful :)

I am so, SO glad that I went!  It was a great experience and I can’t wait to tell all of you about some of the appointments that I had and some of the new products I learned about!  So stay tuned :)
